"44 Reasons" is a community-created art piece
being organized by the Queer Allied Network (QAN). The project will
explore issues surrounding Alberta's contentious Bill 44. Making use of
the concepts of quilting and graffiti walls, "44 Reasons" will
assemble a series of cloth squares with citizen's concerns about Bill
44's anti-education and anti-queer legislation expressed onto them, in
whatever ways hold meaning for each individual. Representatives from
QAN will be at various queer related events and orgnizations with supplies available
for amateur and professional 'artivists' alike to work on a square.
The squares will then be quilted into one large piece, a finale
engaged Albertans can be proud of. If Bill 44 has not been repealed by
the new year, QAN and the artists who created the piece will make a
presentation of the final quilt to the Alberta Legislature.
If you would like to take part in "44 Reasons" but are unable to come to any of the places the project will be present at, you can send QAN a square to be included in the final project.
For more information on how to participate email QAN at queeralliednetwork@gmail.com
So far "44 Reasons" has been at the Exposure Festival, UofA's Day of Silence 2010 and OUTreach.
